Psalm 122

For the sake of the house of the LORD our God,
I will seek your good.”

Just a quick insight today.  I was meditating on this psalm, chanting this morning, and this verse (9) caught my eye, so I spent some time there.  God seemed to make it clear that I do not seek the good of others for my own sake, for their sake, or even for God’s sake, but for the sake of the house of the Lord our God.

That is the Church, of course.  And probably more.  The previous verse mentions “my relatives and friends” in a parallel construct.  Also this is certainly more than my immediate family and circles.

I have more room to meditate, but what seemed important is that it is for the sake of something outside myself that I seek the good of the world.  Whatever good feelings or direct benefit I may receive, it is not all about me.  I will keep praying, because it is so hard to not believe the world revolves around me!

What’s a verse from a Psalm that touches you today and makes you think or pray?  Have you read or said or sung a psalm recently?  On what do you still have room to meditate?
